Raţiu Family Charitable Foundation
The Raţiu Family Charitable Foundation was established in London in 1979 by Ion and Elisabeth Raţiu to promote and support projects which further education and research in the culture and history of Romania. The foundation offers grants to Romanian students studying a wide range of subjects in the UK, principally for projects, postgraduate courses, conference participations, travel grants, and other short term courses including academic research. They enable talented graduates and young professionals to become familiar with the UK and gain skills, which they can adapt and apply in Romania. The Raţiu Foundation offers annual seed funding for innovative projects, principally in Romania, which foster Romanian arts and civilisation, heritage, civil society, democracy and environmental protection.

Raţiu Center for Democracy
Inspired by the transition experiences of younger democracies in the world today as well as the vision of the life-long Romanian democracy campaigner Ion Raţiu (1917-2000), the mission of The Raţiu Center for Democracy is to promote democracy as a way of life by encouraging research, promoting learning, informing others and practically applying democratic values and behaviours locally, nationally and internationally, so that as many as possible may benefit.
This four-part approach ensures that the programs and activities of the Raţiu Center link practitioners, academics, citizens, students and volunteers as comprehensively as possible in the active, multi-disciplinary, non-partisan, non-denominational practice of the values and behaviours associated with democracy as a way of life in the 21st century.
Launched in July 2004, Ratiu Center operates some 20 not-for-profit programs and projects annually in Romania and abroad. With initial support provided by leading faculty members at Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania (founded 1581) and the trustees of the Raţiu Family Foundation, London, United Kingdom (founded 1979), Raţiu Center’s priorities today include partnering with like-minded institutions and colleagues worldwide, particularly in countries in transition to democracy.

Fundatia Raţiu Romania
Established in 1993, Fundaţia Raţiu Romania had the initial goal of providing treatment in Romania to children and young people suffering from leukemia. So successful was the Foundation's program that after only seven years, by 2000, the Romanian government had installed three bone marrow transplant units and taken on full responsibility for the care of childhood leukemia cases in the country.
